James O’Barr

James OBarr is the award-winning creator of The Crow, and the writer of Curare and Skinning the Wolves from IDW Publishing. James was born in Detroit and joined the military when he was 18. While stationed in Berlin in the late 70’s he created The Crow as an attempt to deal with the tragic passing of his fiancé It took ten years to complete and originally publisher interest was not to be found, however, Caliber took a chance and debuted the first issue in issue in 1989. The rest is history and to note – The Crow is currently the bestselling independent graphic novel of all time at over 750,000 + copies sold. In 1993 his book was adapted into the cult film of the same name starring Brandon Lee. James has worked for almost every major publisher and in 1995, he won the Academy Award of comics, the Yellow Kid, award for best storyteller and has been ignored ever since. James currently lives in the Dallas area when not collecting old rarities, he draws, paints, and writes every day, with commissions being accepted as well.
